Art Clay Silver - Syringe Type

Instructions:

Thank you for purchasing ART CLAY SILVER SYRINGE TYPE. Please read the directions and precautions carefully before use.

[Directions]
  • Remove the orange cap from the syringe.
  • Attach the nozzle to the syringe.
  • With even pressure, push out the clay from the tip of the syringe and draw a design.
  • By using a syringe type, you can draw designs directly on dried pieces of clay type or paste type and create subtle patterns which are much more difficult to produce using conventional materials.
  • Do not draw with the syringe on an ordinary sheet of paper. Draw only on paper that the clay will detach from easily after drying (such as wax paper for microwave ovens, Teflon-coated sheet, etc.)
  • After use, take off the nozzle and replace it with the orange cap to seal the tip of syringe.
  • The piece should be fired only after complete drying. Dry the piece for more than 24 hours at room temperature or for about 30 minutes at around 212ºF. (Using a hair dryer would expedite the drying process.)
  • The surface of the fired piece has a matte and white color due to crystallization of the silver, but luster can be obtained by polishing.(example: a metal brush, sandpaper, burnishing, silver polish, etc.)

[Directions]

Firing

Temperature
1472ºF 1600ºF
Holding Time
30 min.

1. Place completely dried piece in the kiln. (If you are firing more than two pieces, make sure the pieces are not touching each other)

2. Raise the kiln's temperature up to 1472ºF for 30 minutes, or 1600ºF for 10 minutes.

3. Switch off the kiln. When the temperature falls below 1200ºF, take out the piece from the kiln and cool it down to room temperature.

Finishing
  • The surface of the fired piece will be white and matte due to crystallization of silver. But luster can be obtained by polishing. (e.g. stainless brush burnisher, buff polishing, file, sandpaper... etc.)
Completing
  • The completed piece is pure silver (99.9%).

[Precautions]

  • Attach the nozzle firmly on the tip of the syringe. If it is too loose, the nozzle may come off when pushing out the clay.
  • The tip of the nozzle is delicate. Do not squeeze it on a hard surface.
  • After shaping or designing with the syringe, remove the nozzle, replace the orange cap, and store the syringe in a zip loc bag.
  • After removing the nozzle, make sure to clean out the remaining clay. You may use the empty syringe that is included with Syringe Type A and B. Draw up at least _ syringe of clean water, attach the nozzle, and empty the remaining clay into a Paste Type jar or a 35mm film canister. Cap tightly.
  • Rinse the clay out of the nozzle by dipping the nozzle into water and rinse it out by pulling water in and out of the syringe applying a piston stroke.
  • Make sure to rinse completely. Leaving dried clay in the nozzle may ruin it.
  • During firing, smoke and gas emission may result. Always be sure to ventilate the workroom.
  • This product and attachments are designed only for ART CLAY SILVER work. Do not use for other purposes.
  • If case of contact with eyes or mouth, rinse with running water and consult a doctor.
  • Because the nozzle is a sharp object, do not point the nozzle of the syringe at a person's face, especially the eyes.
  • For various uses, you can select from the following packages.
